Starfish People
Dave Smith Founders/Director
Dave Tex Smith
Over my 30 years of working life I have enjoyed contributing to business development using both people skills as a manager and founder in addition to having the freedom to unleash my creative side. This is equally in the form of artistic design as it is in solution design as a pragmatist with a good dose of lateral thinking.
Having been privileged to work across several sectors in both private and public capacities I have developed a rounded and multifaceted high level perspective, able to bring that and the associated network to the table.
Since founding my 1st start-up Fuzzy Logic in 1997 I have enjoyed the creative freedom to design and deploy several highly successful initiatives. While it is always nice to receive recognition in the form of numerous business awards it was an invitation to be one of 3 SME Owners representing NZ Business in 2005 to be part of an All of Government Research Project that eventually led to the establishment of Starfish Consultancy.
I have enjoyed presenting at numerous conferences and to a number of universities over the past 10 years.
Starfish represents a time where I have chosen to pull my collection experience together to focus on work with a high degree of positive economic and social capital value.

Dave 'Tex' Smith: My key role is one of TELEFUSIONIST - I bring people and idea's together around projects. I have what many descibe as a 'knack' for knowing or finding key project players.
I am drawn to solving often complex problems andexposing opportunity. We live in an exciting period of history where connectivity and exchange can be a double edged blade.
I have taken it as my role to work in the background, often at the edge to bring about positive change as we transition from the industrial age to one of hyper connected communities and distributed networks.

September 2012 Starfish kicked off its 1st major project - design an innovational Urban Village for Christchurch New Zealand.
Not only did we set out to build an international design and engineering team , but to also challenge what we believe constrained the New Zealand Construction Sector. To do this we challenged ourselves to create a building that exceeded the highest green standards on earth.
Hinaki Urban Village goes beyond the design of an eco structure and sets out to challenge how we design the urban space, how we gather and share resources, how we incorporate our diverse cultural mix.
